Student Spotlight- Anne Frank

Let me introduce to Anne Frank....

Emma had this wonderful end of the year project at school called Student Spotlight and the best thing about this project was that the kids did ALL of the work in school.
I was amazed at the work and creativity that went into each project. It was a wonderful event.

Emma and I are both going to read "The Diary of Anne Frank" together this summer. I loved this book as a child and can't wait for the re-read.

Friendship

This past Saturday night Emma had 3 friends over for a "girl's night." I felt as though she needed time outside of school to spend time with the girls she enjoys. She planned the menu and the activities for the evening. Cupcakes were the first order of business (she loves the show DC Cupcakes)!

I had the opportunity to read a great post on one of my favorite blogs- Clover Lane. She blogged about how girls are growing up too fast in our society today- check it out here. I really wanted the girls to just have an old fashioned hang out time. It was so fun hearing them giggling , talking about their interests and seeing them just being themselves around one another.

Versatility

Spring has sprung! On Sunday, Emma played two games. Her first was soccer and I must say that her team this year is looking so much better than last. It should be a fun season.

We rushed to her next game- lacrosse. (Luckily- she has the same coaches for both teams) As soon as she got on the field her coach asked her to be goalie. Here's the back story. She has had 2 one hour practices to learn lacrosse and no time has been spent on the position of goalie. She immediately said that she would do it!! She suited up and headed out to the field. She played the position really well considering it was her first go at it!! GREAT JOB EMMA!

(ready to go)

(waiting to have a ball whipped at her)

(happy it's over- a big thank you to the pit crew!)

Pumpkin Prom

John and Emma attended the annual Pumpkin Prom which is a father/daughter dance held in our town. It is one of their favorite activities to do together every year. We have pictures taken from each one - 5 years in total. Emma has grown so much in five years. John told me that they used to dance together and this year she didn't want to......life goes by fast.

Next year will be their last year as the cut off is for 5th graders.

Check out her little heels and I believe she is wearing a little blush and lipstick.

A School Picture Tradition- thanks Elizabeth

For the past four years, Elizabeth has done Emma's hair for her school pictures. Emma looks forward to having a "makeover" every year. Of course this year, the humidity is about 98% so I hope her hair holds out until the click of the shutter on the camera goes off.

Thanks Elizabeth!!!!

Alexa and Emma have been buddies for years!

I love the fact that they can both have crazy moments together.

Fall
has arrived I just wish the temperature and humidity would drop.

Emma's 10th Birthday Pool Party

Emma celebrated her 10th birthday this past week. She is actually only 9 1/2 but we like to celebrate in the summer rather than a week before Christmas. She had 9 of her friends over and they spent the afternoon swimming and just having fun together.

Emma made her own cupcakes...too cute for words.

Three close friends!!

Emma's Field Day

Yesterday, I was able to participate in Emma's Filed Day at school. The kids had a blast going to all of the different stations. Her class is very sweet and worked very well together.

Counting down the days..

Emma's shirt says it perfectly. We are ready for summer.

Emma's final report was on the bald eagle. We went in last night to her classroom to see everyone's reports. It was a great night and I was very impressed by all of the hard work the children did on these reports. Amazing jobs.
Mom- thought you might like to see her dedication..... so sweet!

Lunch Date -Part 2

Today, was Emma's turn and I managed to surprise her as well. We also held hands as we left her school both of us giggling like we had just pulled off the biggest coup. We had a wonderful time at lunch discussing the same things that I had discussed with Henry. They both seem like that had a wonderful year but are really looking forward to the summer and just being "lazy." I asked both of them if they wanted me to sign them up for any camps and both said "no."

After lunch, I told Emma that she could get ice cream. When we got in the car she leaned up from the backseat and kissed me on the cheek and said- "thank you mom." I could have cried right there!!! Kids love having special one-on-one time with their parents and it is just as amazing for us. It's hard to imagine that just a few years ago they were such babies and now they are acting more and more mature. I love listening to them.

On a side note- Emma actually thanked me for taking her home from a sleep over party (we don't allow our kids to spend the night). She said that she was happy that she had gotten a good night's sleep. Boy, I never expected to hear that statement from her. We also talked about how we are both crazy about our beds. Here are some things that we are crazy about- the bed MUST be made in order to get into it, no one else can be on our sheets, no one can put their heads on our pillows, basically- no touching our BEDS!!!

So much fun to have lunch with a beautiful girl who is growing up so quickly. I love you Emma!!!

Colonial Craft Day

Today was Colonial Craft Day at Emma's school. It was a fun event to be at with Emma. The activities all centered around the Colonial times. Her favorite room was stenciling.

Thank you Kelly E. for letting us borrow the costume!!!!
